Biography
Obamuyi Korede is a Nigerian contemporary visual artist, painter, and humanitarian. As a proponent of artistic storytelling, Korede’s art reflects his interest in culture and humanity.
As an orphan from Ondo, raised in the slums of Ajegunle, Lagos, human nature greatly fascinated young Korede. This, he believes was the earliest influence on the direction of his art. With his brush, Korede stamps faces, moments, emotions, and history on canvas. Each of his paintings pulsates with a story about culture, nature, and humanity.
Korede displayed signs of innate artistic talent from a young age. As a teen prodigy, he got featured on National television and several other television channels for his outstanding craft as a pencil artist. His deftness as a teenage pencil artist earned him recognition by His Imperial Majesty the Ooni of Ile-Ife who has ever since been a patron of Korede’s art.
His relentless desire to advance his professional skills and create lasting art spurred him to enroll in further training under three different Professors of art in Lagos, Nigeria. He has worked professionally as an artist for 10 years.
He is skilled in several mediums and art forms but his most prominent art form is painting. Korede’s masterful use of paint and brush strokes in portraiture creates a myriad of palpable textures and moods reflecting reality. His versatility and sensitivity as a visual artist is reflected in the compelling portraits he creates.
